It's Opera Aria time with coach/pianist, Miah Im, who recently took over as Director of Opera Studies at Rice University. With over 80 operas in her repertoire, Im has served on the music staffs for Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Ravinia Festival, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, The Juilliard School and the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy.
Toufic Maatouk, one of the most compelling conductors of his generation, began his tenure as Artistic Director of Beirut Chants Festival in Lebanon in 2012. Maatouk was appointed Artistic Director and Choir Master of the Antonine University Choir, in August 2005 and Head of the vocal department in the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music in October 2015.
Have you ever dreamed of singing a song for its composer? Join us for this class to watch SVA alumni work with American composer, Jake Heggie. Heggie is the composer of the operas Dead Man Walking (libretto by Terrence McNally), Moby-Dick (libretto by Gene Scheer), It’s A Wonderful Life (Scheer), Great Scott (McNally), Three Decembers (Scheer), among others. In addition to eight full-length operas and several one-acts, Heggie has composed nearly 300 art songs, as well as concerti, chamber music, choral and orchestral works.
