SCHMIDT VOCAL ARTS ALUMNI GRANTS

Schmidt Vocal Arts is proud to support our alumni with Summer Study Grants—created to reduce the financial burden of enrolling in summer vocal programs in the U.S. or abroad. We know these immersive experiences are essential to your growth as a classical singer, and we’re here to help make them possible.

Schmidt Vocal Arts will provide up to twenty (20) grants for summer study, with an average grant of $2,000 per person. Grant amounts may vary depending on the project. Grants will be awarded on merit/talent, with a priority towards singers who demonstrate financial need.

Merit/talent considerations include:

  • Vocal development since participation in Schmidt Vocal Arts program
  • Beauty of voice
  • Vocal technique
  • Artistry
  • Career potential

A singer is eligible for no more than three grant awards, with a combined maximum of $6,000. in summer study grant funding over the course of their education/career.

Grant use:

  • Tuition for summer vocal study or education opportunity
  • Housing/living expenses for summer vocal study opportunity
  • Travel for summer vocal study opportunity

When possible, the grant monies will be distributed directly to the participating summer program. If the money is reimbursement for travel, receipts must be provided to Schmidt Vocal Arts before reimbursement money is distributed.

Requirements to apply:

  1. Singer must be an alum of a Schmidt Vocal Arts program (Schmidt Vocal Competition, Schmidt Vocal Institute, Schmidt Vocal Education, or Schmidt Vocal Scholarship Recipient).
  2. Singer must have a valid United States Social Security Number and must be United States citizens, permanent residents, or have DACA approved status.

Applications should include:

  1. Proposal of study, including detailed information about chosen program, total costs, roles offered, other performance opportunities, faculty, etc. (2 pages) Please include your thoughts on how this opportunity can help further your vocal learning and career.
  2. Brief description of experience with Schmidt Vocal Arts
  3. Current performance resume
  4. Video of 2 arias/art songs (YouTube links preferred)
  5. Letter of recommendation from current voice teacher, emailed directly to [email protected]
  6. Basic financial information
    • If in high school: Prior year’s parent tax return (SSNs blacked out)
    • If in college: Prior year’s parent tax return or financial aid award letter
    • If graduated: Prior year’s personal tax return (SSNs blacked out)

All items should be emailed as PDF attachments in one email to [email protected]*. YouTube links should be in the body of the email. Please do not send items separately.

* With the exception of your teacher’s recommendation, which should be emailed separately to [email protected] for confidentiality.

Applications open on December 15, 2025

Applications must be received by March 1, 2026.

Successful applicants will be notified by March 27, 2026.
