REPERTOIRE FOR STUDY

To make the most of your Schmidt Vocal Institute experience, we ask that you come prepared having already learned the repertoire listed below. That way, you can polish and perfect it in your coaching and lessons.

Singers will prepare selections in these categories:

• One Italian aria or song
• One song in German by Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, or Robert Schumann
• One song in English by an American composer.
• One musical theater piece (written before 1960), American standard, or Operetta aria
• Optional: Wildcard! Propose a piece that falls outside of the above categories.
• Optional: Opera aria – Evans Mirageas, Artistic Director of Cincinnati Opera, will offer an audition class with operatic arias.
• Singers are encouraged to offer at least one piece in the above categories by an underrepresented composer.

Partnership with Cincinnati Opera

During the Schmidt Vocal Institute singers often have the opportunity to engage with artists and creative teams from the Cincinnati Opera. We work in partnership with Cincinnati Opera to provide a glimpse into the professional opera world!
